Frequently Asked Questions

I work with teen athletes, collegiate athletes, and adults who have a current or former connection to competitive sports. Whether you’re navigating performance pressure, recovering from injury, transitioning out of competition, or struggling with identity beyond athletics—I’m here to support you.

Many former athletes seek counseling to process identity shifts, career transitions, relationship challenges, or lingering performance-related stress. If sports shaped who you are, this space is for you.

Common areas include performance anxiety, confidence struggles, burnout, motivation, injury recovery, relationship stress, self-esteem, life transitions, and general mental health concerns such as anxiety or depression.

Your first session is a conversation—low-pressure and collaborative. We talk about what’s going on, what you want to change, and what kind of support will help you the most. You’ll walk away with a clearer plan, not a list of generic advice.

Online therapy is available to clients anywhere in South Carolina through a secure, private video platform. Many athletes prefer virtual sessions for convenience between practices, travel, or school.

I am an out-of-network provider, which means insurance plans typically reimburse a portion of the session cost. Upon request, I can provide a superbill to help you submit for reimbursement.

Every client is different. Some athletes come in for short-term support around a specific issue, while others stay for the long term to build broader life and mindset skills. We work at a pace that matches your goals—not a predetermined timeline.

That’s completely normal. Many elite athletes feel pressure to “push through” or handle things on their own. Counseling isn’t about weakness—it’s about strengthening the most important part of your sports performance and your life: your mind. You can show up exactly as you are.

Most clients begin with weekly or bi-weekly sessions. We adjust frequency based on your needs, schedule, and progress.

I support teens in a way that respects their privacy, while also keeping parents informed on overall themes, goals, and progress.

Just reach out through the contact form, email, or phone to schedule a free consultation. From there, we’ll explore your needs and decide if we’re the right fit.

Good Faith Estimate

In compliance with the No Surprise Act, you are entitled to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of what the charges are for therapy services provided to you. At Carolina Counseling for Athletes , you pay per appointment, however your total cost of services will depend upon the number of therapy sessions you attend. It is difficult to determine the true length or frequency of treatment for mental health care, and each client has a right to decide how long they would like to participate. The fee schedule for services is outlined in the new client paperwork completed prior to beginning services. We are happy to discuss progress with you on a regular basis to determine how many sessions you may need. If you are billed for more than this Good Faith Estimate, please let us know so we can make the proper adjustments in a timely manner. However, you also have the right to start a dispute resolution process here:
